Big data engineer
We’re not looking for someone to come and build something for us that we can’t, or to come fix a dying system. We already built it—we just think we can do better. There aren’t too many people with this kind of experience. It can be lonely, so come hang out with people who will actually know what you are talking about.
Here’s why you’ll like us:
- The best solution wins. We run on data, not politics.
- We’re small enough that you’ll make a huge difference.
- We’ll keep you challenged.
- We’re smart people who value “done” over “perfect”
- We’re not hiring you to fix or maintain a broken system—we’re hiring you to make a good system even better and to create new systems that others haven’t thought of yet.
- We don’t have bureaucracy, middle management or pointless meetings.
Here’s why we’ll like you:
- You have direct experience with very large volumes of data that customers demand access to within minutes, not days.
- You have scaled a website to handle millions of writes per day, summarized data for thousands of users across many servers or generated ad-hoc reports over billion-row datasets.
- You are calm in the face of outgrowing your existing architecture and finding solutions to handle the influx of data.
- You get excited thinking about “optimal solutions”, but you’re pragmatic enough to realize that “done” beats “optimal”
- You can see the inner-workings of a large-scale architecture in your head. When you hear a bug report, you can simulate all the moving parts and predict where the source of the issue might be within a few seconds.
Is this you? We know you’re rare, so we’re not going to waste your time with puzzles and we know a resume isn’t going to do your talent justice. If you’re interested, email us and we’ll set up some time for you to talk with our CTO.
